  Mary Leo Greenhaw Whisenant

1923 - 2020

On April 14, 2020, Angels came to get Mrs. Mary Leo Greenhaw Whisenant.

She was born on March 30, 1923, to Joseph and Leo Wilson Greenhaw of 
Union Grove, AL. She married Roy Howard Whisenant on October 22, 1939. 
The couple had 3 children and lived most of their lives in Arab, AL. Mr. 
Whisenant died on Oct. 14, 1998.

Mary faithfully attended First Baptist Church of Arab for over 50 years. 
She also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, gardening and raising her 
two daughters and son. She loved caring for children and was employed by 
Great Day Kindergarten in Arab for over 30 years. She also devoted many 
hours to the nursery of the First Baptist Church. Many adults in Arab 
today fondly remember their kindergarten years with Miss Mary, the 
affectionate name by which she was known.

Miss Mary was predeceased by her husband, her parents and two brothers 
Robert W. Greenhaw (Nova) and Joseph Glenn Greenhaw (Lu).

She is survived by her children: Shirley Simchik (Paul) of Huntsville, 
Carol Solberger (Jack) of Mobile and Douglas Whisenant (Lynn) of 
Harvest; her grandchildren: Andy Simchik, Sara Hough, Carol Anne 
Solberger-Bush, Johnny Solberger, Christina Wright, Pamela Bailey, 
Daniel Whisenant; her great grandchildren: Ronin and Danica Carroll; a 
sister: Nancy Halloran (John) of Kingston, New Hampshire; sister in law: 
Lu Greenhaw of Union Grove and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

by Gober Funeral Chapel of Arab at the Arab Memorial Cemetery.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. Miss Mary 
will be greatly missed.

She was at the HD from about 1960 to 1989, had TC#1521, and worked in 
Program Management - including time with Bert Mangum. Her husband worked 
in the Procurement & Property Dept.*
