*Dr. Carl M. Powe Powe Jr.*
Dr. Carl M. Powe, Jr. peacefully passed on the morning of Aug. 4th, with
his family at his side.
Dr. Powe was born in Hartsville, SC, son of Carl M. Powe, Sr. and Marie
Powe. He attended The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina.
After graduation in 1956 he married Marian Atkins of Dillon, SC. Dr.
Powe served a distinguished career of 20 years in the U.S. Army as an
ordnance officer, specializing in nuclear weapons. His tours of duty
included Korea and wartime Vietnam, and his awards included the Legion
of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf
Cluster and the Vietnamese Gallantry Cross. He retired as a Lieutenant
Colonel. An avid proponent of higher education, Dr. Powe earned an MBA
and a Doctor of Management.
Upon retirement from the military he worked for companies such as
*Thiokol Corporation*, United Technologies Corporation and Science
Applications International Corporation (SAIC). Additionally, he was
president of his consulting firm, Simulation Training, Inc. and was an
adjunct instructor at several educational institutions in the Huntsville
area, including The University of Alabama in Huntsville and the Florida
Institute of Technology.
Dr. Powe enjoyed time travelling with family, photography, writing and
he was a voracious reader. He authored two books focused on management
and career development.
Dr. Powe is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marian; his daughter, Dr.
Audrey Powe McDade (Mike McClellan) of Huntsville; and his son, Carl M.
Powe, III (Carla) of Kiawah Island, SC.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Aug. 6th, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and the
funeral will be Friday, Aug. 7th at 11:00 a.m., both at Laughlin Service
Funeral Home, Huntsville, AL.
