You know, some of these hit harder than others. Herschel was one of the easiest going, friendly people I met at Thiokol.  He helped this young propellant chemist tremendously. I also remember a lot of great lunchtime basketball games on the dirt court. Sad news but sure he has great rewards!

Obituary

March 16, 1940 - February 11, 2022

R. Hershel Sneed, 81, of Huntsville, passed away Friday.

He was preceded in death by father, Walter Laymon Sneed, mother, Ruby Henrietta Sneed, daughter, Joannie Thornberry, sister, Martha Cherry, brother, W.L. "Bill" Sneed, brother, James Sneed, brother, Joel Sneed, granddaughter, Bailey Porter.

Surviving are wife, Linda Diane Alexander Sneed, daughter, Gina Porter and Ron, son, Buddy Norris and Angie, siblings, Tom Sneed and Diane, Carol Sneed, Jerry Sneed and Kathy, Ruby Childers and Tim and Wanda Nelson and Steve, eight grandchildren, Adam Porter, Justin Sivley and Sarah, Brandon French, Jessica Tubbs and Travis, Raina French, Anna Thornberry, Benjamin Norris and Sarah Thornberry and numerous nieces & nephews.

Visitation will be Monday 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at New Hope Funeral Home. Services will be held at New Hope Funeral Home Chapel, Monday at 1:00 pm with Rev. Mike Hulsey and Dan McQuay officiating. Pallbearers will be Steve Nelson, Steve Thornberry, Tim Childers, Ben Norris, Travis Tubbs, Ron Porter.

Interment will be in the Sneed Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made to either American Heart Association or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Hershel Sneed was a propellant mixing technician in the Chem Lab at Thiokol, and then after the Huntsville Division was closed, like several of us he went over the fence to the Army Propulsion Lab.  He was a good man to work with.

His funeral was on Valentines Day 🙁
