      Obituary: James Gilbert O'Rear

July 11, 1935 - February 25, 2023

James Gilbert O’Rear, 87, passed away February 25^th , 2023.

Mr. O’Rear, a native of Madison County, AL, was a dedicated husband, 
father, grandfather, great-grandfather, coach, and friend. He was a 
musician and performed with his father’s weekly live radio show, “Jimmy 
O’Rear and His Radio Gang” on WBHP in Huntsville, AL. He retired after 
33 years with the Thiokol Corporation.

Survivors include the love of his life for 64 years, Rose Michael 
O’Rear; three sons, Jeff (Michele), Greg (Lorie), and Kenny; five 
grandchildren, Ashley (Paul) Whitt, Kyle (Jenny) O’Rear, Derek (Laura 
Beth) O’Rear, Amanda (Daniel) Bishop, and Blake (Whitney) O’Rear; and 
eleven great-grandchildren. Brother Tommy (Cathy) O’Rear; sisters; Susan 
Morris, Nancy (Charles) Longshore, Jo (Mike) Reed, and Robbie (Terry) 
Campell, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, James A. O’Rear and mother 
Pearlie B. Nichols O’Rear, brother Bobby O’Rear, and sister Ann O’Rear Palm.

Pallbearers will be Kyle O’Rear, Derek O’Rear, Blake O’Rear, Paul Whitt, 
Daniel Bishop, and Lee Michael.

Visitation will Tuesday, February 28th from 12:00 - 2:00 PM at Berryhill 
Funeral Home, followed by the service at 2:00 with Rev. Paul Harrison 
officiating.  Pallbearers will be Kyle O’Rear, Derek O’Rear, Blake 
O’Rear, Paul Whitt, Daniel Bishop, and Lee Michael. Burial will be in 
Huntsville Memory Gardens.
