Johnnie Swaim Obituary
Mrs. Johnnie Marie McMurtrie Swaim age 94 of Huntsville passed away on
February 1, 2025.
Johnnie was born on September 25th, 1930 and preceded in death by her
husband William "Bill" D. Swaim, Jr., they were married 61 years.
Johnnie was preceded in death by her parents John Crouthers and Minnie
Mae Rodman McMurtrie and by four sisters (Evelyn Parvin, Bertie Mae
Hovis, Lorene Greenhaw and Jean Thomas) and one brother (William
McMurtrie) all of the Huntsville area.
Johnnie is survived by two daughters, Jeri Swaim Kirkpatrick (Tim), Joni
Swaim, nephew Jimmie D. Parvin (Billy Collins), sister-in-law Barbara
Swaim, and many additional nieces and nephews.
Johnnie graduated from Madison High School and began her work career,
first at Rose Jewlery on the square in downtown Huntsville and then at
Redstone Arsenal. She enjoyed working and was a government civilian
employee for over 37 years. After retiring from the government she went
on to continue her career working as a DoD contractor until 2005.
Johnnie had many hobbies, she liked music and played the piano, enjoyed
excercising, water skiing, bowling, sewing and traveling with work and
family, especially the trips she made to New York City starting with her
first high school class trip then with family. She was an amazing mother
and she and Bill built a loving happy home with lots of fun for their
two children, that left many wonderful memories for her girls, their
cousins and friends. She was selfless, loving and giving and enjoyed
more than anything doing and giving to others, and as a result, to know
Johnnie was to love her.
The funeral service was held Wednesday February 5, 2025 at Spry Funeral
Home, North Memorial Parkway with Mr. Mack Thomas (nephew) officiating.
Internment at Maple Hill Cemetery.
